Complaint about AT&T; Update: received an unadvertised rebate
Recently, I had a need for more reliable Internet connection, so I ordered my own DSL service, rather than sharing (during certain times, I had to know that the connection was reliable and that no one else was using up the bandwidth). I would’ve done this month or two ago, but AT&T was charging $75 for network equipment, so, well, I didn’t, and simply stayed at office whenever I needed reliable Internet connection. Well, two months was inconvenient enough, seeing the $75 as a, well, $6 surcharge per month, I finally ordered DSL.
When the DSL equipment arrived, well, it turns out they shipped the DSL modem and wireless router separately. In fact, the wireless router was just an ol’ Linksys E1000, something I can buy on Amazon for $50 new, if I needed it—and I didn’t need it.
So, I called AT&T to return the equipment for some refund. Well, here’s their claim: $75 was for the DSL modem; the wireless router was “free”—hence no way to return it for refund. Well, that sucks.
Now I think I’m going to try to unload it (probably on Craigslist or Amazon Marketplace). It’s not that much money, but it is an hassle, and frankly, that’s why I’m complaining now.
Update: I received a rebate (this happened about a week ago; I only remembered this post now) equal to the amount I paid for equipment. This promotion wasn’t advertised at the time I ordered the service; I’m happy to have received the rebate and I no longer have any complaint about AT&T and what they didn’t charge for equipment.
